Botanical Intelligence: Moon Edition (Yuma Kishi + Tatsuya Takemori) was shown at Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa 2026, an art festival spread across the streets of Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, under the theme “Another Gravity”. Thirty devices were installed in the biotope of Shimokita Nohara Square, a garden tended by the local gardening collective Shimokita Engeibu, together with three LED bars about two meters tall that scroll the text the devices themselves generate, two in letters and one in Morse code.
From the afternoon into the night, each unit listened to the plants around it and passed whispered fragments of language and pulses of light to its neighbors. The square’s own vegetation entered the work as sound: the waiting tone between generations was made from acoustic emission recordings of a crape myrtle growing in the biotope. A new edition of Botanical Intelligence, first realized as Parallel Forests at Umi-no-Mori in March 2026.
